The Courage It Takes to Start a New Chapter

There’s something about spring that reminds us life is always moving forward. The days grow a little longer. Light returns to places that felt gray all winter. And even if we aren’t ready, the world quietly begins again. In my work, I see this same rhythm in people’s lives.

From the outside, moving often looks like a practical decision: square footage, timing, interest rates, schools, and neighborhoods. But when you sit at enough kitchen tables and walk through enough homes with people, you realize that almost every move carries a deeper story. A new chapter is rarely just about a house.

Sometimes it’s the excitement of a young family buying their first home, imagining birthdays and holiday mornings that haven’t happened yet. Sometimes it’s the bittersweet moment when children are grown, and a home that once felt full suddenly feels too quiet.

Other times, the reasons are harder. Illness changes what a home needs to be. A job opportunity calls someone somewhere new. Life circumstances shift in ways we never expected. In those moments, a move is not just a logistical decision, it’s an emotional one,

and it takes courage. Courage to let go of the familiar. Courage to step toward something unknown. Courage to believe that the next chapter can still hold good things.

Over the years, I’ve learned that what people need most in those moments isn’t pressure or speed. It’s space. Space to ask questions, to weigh possibilities, to talk through the things that don’t always show up on paper. Because homes hold our lives. They hold memories, routines, and pieces of the people we’ve been. But they also hold the promise of who we are becoming.

My faith reminds me often that life is full of seasons. Some chapters begin with excitement. Others begin with uncertainty. But none of them are written alone.

If you’re standing at the edge of a new chapter, whether it’s a move, a change, or simply a season you didn’t expect, I hope you give yourself grace.

Starting again is rarely easy. But it is often where hope quietly begins.

And sometimes, the courage to take one small step forward is all that’s needed for the next chapter to unfold. May this season bring you hope, peace and love in all things!
